Vintage Brooch
Brooches, such as the vintage brooch, first made its appearance in American History back in the 14th century B.C. The vintage brooch along with any other brooch when it first made the scene was created to hold articles of clothing in place. The first brooches were actually pretty ugly, but as time wore on they became super cute and are known today for their glitz and glamour appeal. The vintage brooch appeals to women of all ages (old or young) it doesn’t matter. The vintage brooch comes in a variety of colored stones, placements of jewels, and styles. They also come in an array of shapes even those that resemble different flowers and insects. The vintage brooch also comes in different prices. You can purchase a vintage brooch for as little as $3 dollars, yet at the same time some brooches can and do cost hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on the type of materials used to create the pieces. The vintage brooch can be pinned to just about any type of fabric to add a little sparkle to an otherwise boring wardrobe. The vintage brooch is very popular with today’s brides as it is pinned in various locations on the dress. Some pin it in the back where a train is usually bustled. Some pin it under the bust line and some wear it on the sides of their veils. I actually prefer it near the ear in the hair. It gives a very romantic and classy look. One brooch in particular that caught my eye happens to be the Vintage Swarovski Crystal Floral Brooch. It comes in antique gold and is 42 mm x 42 mm. It sells for a low price of $26.57 and you really can’t beat that.
Victorian Brooch
The victorian brooch is a very popular brooch. The victorian brooch has a woman’s picture etched in most pieces, which It actually resembles the cameo brooch by having the face carving. Some of the brooches in the victorian brooch collection’s also have small tassels that hang from the bottom of the pin’s. The victorian brooch actually is pretty self explanatory. It gives the feel and look of the old Victorian era, by the way the beads hang and the choice of the beads themselves. During the Victorian era the most popular gems were actually the chrysoprase, moonstones, peridot, turquoise, rubies, sapphires, aquamarine, amethyst, and opals. The opal however, back in the 1870’s, was actually considered bad luck. It all started because of one woman who owned an opal hair piece and had a horrible incident occur. It was just a coincidence, but it sparked a horrible superstition which hurt the opal industry at the time. However, after a while people started purchasing opal and even today it is one of the world’s most precious stones.
Brooch Jewelry
The brooch jewelry, because of how many years it’s been around, has a very interesting and lengthy history with many cool facts. I have already named a few things, like its first purpose on this earth as well as the superstitions that had started, but there is so much more. For instance the Washington Post wrote an article back in April of 2006 stating that an entrepreneur out of Salt Lake City had created a business where he/she sells brooch jewelry. The kicker is, that the pieces this business owner sells is not just any brooch jewelry. It is actually live cockroaches which are bedazzled in jewels and have a tiny leash on them, so they do not scurry off too far while you have them pinned to you. Apparently these cockroach brooches are selling for $60 dollars in the store and $80 dollars on the internet. Although many may disagree, this brooch jewelry fashioned from cockroaches does not hurt the cockroaches in any sort of way. The cockroaches themselves actually have an outer shell that extends past their head, which allows them to be jeweled and not feel a thing. Also as a side note, for those who are fans or may even be a part of PETA, the cockroaches used for the pins are actually saved from people who breed them for food or for other animals and purposes where they are sentenced to death. So actually this company is saving their lives and doing the right thing.
If you have any interest in researching and are fascinated in brooches you should look to the vast supply of knowledge, which the internet provides. Also as just one more side note, I would like to remind you that jewelry (especially diamonds) are a girl’s best friend so if you want to surprise your lady friend, wife, mother, grandmother or whoever is special in your life with an amazing, yet reasonably priced gift, I would suggest a fine brooch to make her smile.
